Car
I have discovered: the northern plains are rough on a car. My poor baby is a 96 Honda Accord, and its been suffering since I started graduate school. In July and August respectively, it made two thousand mile trips. In September, I put diesel into my gas tank instead of gas. The car got towed about 60 miles and had the gas tank flushed. The tow was included in my AAA (one of the best birthday gifts I've gotten), but the shop fee was about $100, plus the cost of a tank of diesel and a tank of gas. In October, I needed an oil change. Routine and good. I think I drained the battery as well by leaving my lights on, so Michael Cera came to my rescue and jumped me. November, I made another big trip, and blew a tire a few weeks later. A group of Mormons on mission changed my tire, and we talked about high school football in Idaho. I ended up spending $216 on two new front tires. In December, I lost control driving along a seculuded highway in Minnasoda and had to get pulled out. I held myself together, but it was not a cheap lesson in snow driving, $98 later, I'm thankful the damage wasn't worse. January saw another tired go flat... $150 later. Now, in Febuary, my battery is dead and I need a new one. March will see me with another oil change, and hopefully nothing else. Lesson: Cars are expensive.
